Reflect on statement of inquiry :
explain what long lasting political, economic, technological, social or cultural changes OCCURRED in your society.
In the Hong Kong Society, Hong Kong's has a popular issue that needs to be changed in it's political system, which is the Chief executive's election every 4-5 years. As the chief executive was elected by a 1200-people election committee, normal citizens of Hong Kong did not have the right to vote, therefore giving Hong Kong people little political rights in the election. When Hong Kong people finally stood out in mobs in the "Occupy Central" / "Umbrella Revolution" event, the government was able to take notice of the situation, and agreed to change the election system by implementing the method of Universal Suffrage. However, Hong Kong citizens are still not happy with the change, as it is still unfair with the 1200-people election committee choosing first, only to let them choose in the final selection process. This is because Hong Kong citizens fear their loss of democracy, if they do not step out for themselves, there would be less democracy in the country. After 50 years when the basic law is over, China would put on restrictions and Hong Kong would just become another normal city of China, having different restrictions and no democracy, never again to become a special administrative region.
There was also great economical changes to Hong Kong, which Hong Kong's trading network is gradually improving and becoming a more powerful city of Asia. Also, due to large popularity of mainland tourism and shopping, Hong Kong shops are earning more, and causing land lords to increase rent, having stores to increase price of their products, and the citizens of Hong Kong are greatly affected by it. With high prices of rent, and having Hong Kong to interact with the international community, Hong Kong traditional cultured places are unable to sustain it's business, slowly closing one by one, losing our culture. For social changes, it was greatly represented by the amount of conflicts within Hong Kong people and people from mainland China, as Hong Kong people are not pleased with some to many of the visitor's attitude, and changing their life of what they originally had.
Last of all, Hong Kong technological advancements have improved a lot, as the interaction with the global market have improved it's trading system in Asia. A great example is U.S electric motors company TESLA, which chose Hong Kong to advanced it's successful example of electric car as Hong Kong is small enough to install superchargers, and that many Hong Kong people are willing and wealthy enough to buy the car. The price is to be the same with the U.S as the Hong Kong government does not tax, also being one of the factors why Hong Kong is a more attractive market for technological + economical advances. Another great example is the Hong Kong MTR, where we have one of the world's highest quality transit, with improved trains and engineering technology.
